That’s why…

SUMMARY:
For both rural and urban expeditions? Check.
For 1 day or for 3 days? Check.
For lighter loads and for heavier ones? Yep!
Minimal design or lots of customization opportunities? Definitely.
And this is how this 24BacctlePack Tactical backpack from Tacticon took home the Editor’s Choice trophy.
One of the troubles in having only one backpack is you can only choose whether to use it for heavy-duty purposes such as hiking or as an emergency bag, or as an everyday carry backpack.
But with this one…
You can easily cast that dilemma away because this can go from a regular everyday backpack to a 72-hour survival backpack kit with its expanding capabilities, which is great if you’re trying to save some coins or can’t afford to buy another backpack for other purposes just yet.
The linings are fully waterproof and the zippers are oversized so you can rest assured that your belongings inside will stay safe and dry.
At 19 inches in height, this survival backpack has a full-length zipper so I didn’t have any trouble packing in my sleeping bag or even our tent for camping!
Another thing that appealed to me…
And definitely proved very convenient are the molle attachment points, which made it easier to carry more without getting my hands full.
If you’re meticulous about the smallest but most important details, the good news is the breathable mesh parts are further strengthened by double-stitched seams to make sure that this backpack will stand the test of time however rough and heavy the loads are.
And I know you’re wondering…
If this guy can accommodate a hydration bladder.
Well, lucky you because this backpack features not only a compartment for the bladder but it’s also insulated and comes with holes and even hanging clips so you can organize the tubings and keep them out of the way.
And as if that’s not enough…
This survival bag also features a concealed gun holster if you’re one who prefers to have added protection so you can safely store your weapon without any risk of harming anyone.
Oh, and I was also amused by how many velcro loops there are. I’m a sucker for cool patches so I was thrilled to have more room for them!
And if you’re wondering how padded it is, let me just say that it’s generously padded, especially in the laptop compartment so that’s a huge plus.
And you’ll love this.
Aside from having a 1-year warranty for your peace of mind, this survival bag also comes with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee which will let you return it for a full refund in case you’re not satisfied. No questions asked as they say.

SUMMARY:
Sure, all survival backpacks out there are great but it’s not every day you’ll see a bug out bag that’s packed with nice and practical features without breaking the bank.
This tactical backpack from Mardingtop takes the Best Value award for surprising us with more than the usual number of features but at a very likable price!
This military-style survival backpack from Mardingtop isn’t as huge as other survival backpacks, but that’s also where its strength lies.
How so?
Well, because it’s not as big as our Editor’s Choice, you can use it for more purposes, such as a motorcycle bag, or a weekend hiking backpack.
So if you’re looking to just level up your EDC bag, this is your best bet. It’s not as overwhelming as a bigger, more heavy-duty backpack but it’s tough and big enough to hold everything you need for the day.
For a light packer, you can fit your survival gear and things here to last for about two days.
And to make it much better…
It also has compression straps at the bottom of the bag where you can hang your sleeping bag, tent, or tripod…name it.
And as if that’s not enough, I’ve also found a lovely surprise right there at the bottom as well, and that’s another extra zippered pocket.
It’s so hidden that you can even hide your money or other valuables there.
As for me, I found it very convenient storage for my sleeping bag.
And it doesn’t end there.
Another plus point for this is the tough horizontal straps that go across your chest and down around your lower back.
I mean, don’t you just hate it when you’re walking briskly or running while your bug out bag flaps around at your back?
It’s also cinched at the sides to add another layer of security to your valuables without sacrificing easy access.
And that’s what makes it a favorite among motorcyclists. It’s secure but not overwhelmingly bulky. The perfect backpack for riding.
And in case you’re wondering…
Yes, it’s also waterproof, thanks to its 600D polyester material.
Although I can’t say the same for the zipper linings. It proved its water-resistant powers when I accidentally splashed water on the facade of the bag but I wouldn’t walk in the rain with it and expect that my belongings inside will stay perfectly dry.
And the best thing about this survival backpack?
Well, the best thing, at least for my friends. It’s a wide variety of colors to choose from!
It comes in more than 10 varieties, with different colors and prints to suit any personality.
Let me just say that the ladies loved the purple one and I especially like the snow camo variety!

- Weight: 5 lbs.
Bottom Line: The king of hiking backpacks, this bag from Teton Sports is literally loaded with all the features you need for a hassle-free expedition. Its unbeatable toughness and comfort make it one of the best survival backpacks on the market.
Pros
- Super tough straps
- Complete shoulder straps as well as chest and waist straps to fit any body build
- With an integrated rainfly to protect your backpack completely from being soaked
- Enormously spacious inside
Cons
- It has a compartment for sleeping bags, but it can only accommodate lighter varieties
- Could be too heavy if you’re not used to carrying heavy bags
Excuse me if I ever run out of words because this trooper from TETON Sports impressed us in many ways and apparently, with about a hundred other users.
Naturally, we gave it our Top Pick award for its exceptional engineering with your ultimate comfort combined with strength in mind.
This boss of a bag boasts a real spacious interior.
And when I say spacious, it seriously is.
Aside from having a capacity of a staggering 65 liters or 4,000 cubic inches, it also has a hood compartment for extra room for your belongings.
Now here’s the kicker.
This big guy is so roomy and tough that you can use it for not only up to 3 days but even more!
Now, we’re not weekend warriors. I’m one of the odd ones who can camp or hike for around 5 days and let me tell you, it lasted me for 4 days.
Now you might be thinking..surely, just like any other big hiking backpacks, it must hurt to carry that, what with all those bulky gear that you can fit inside.
The answer to that may sound too good to be true, but this tactical survival backpack is one of the rare ones that have managed to combine heavy-duty features with comfort.
It sure looks painful to wear and carry.
But it proved to be a groundless first impression once I got to carry this to my 4-day camping trip.
It’s every inch is made to make the carrier as comfortable as possible.
As a matter of fact, this survival bag is clearly made for comfort with its fully adjustable padded shoulder straps, as well as waist and torso straps.
Worrying about your small stature?
Even a female backpacker or a slim man can also be able to enjoy this bag thanks to the wide range of straps.
Moreover, it also has a compartment for a 3-liter hydration bladder along with the side pockets that are made to carry your tent poles or anything long that would be uncomfortable or awkward to hand-carry through your hike.
But here’s what makes it a stand-out.
Speaking of ultimate comfort, this is also one of the few survival backpacks with a built-in internal frame that we’ve seen!
So your bag can still look dignified and structured while protecting your belongings when it’s not fully loaded and can keep you from hurting when it’s full.
And it doesn’t end there!
You’d also be glad to know that this tactical backpack also has a built-in rainfly so you can instantly cover your bag when rain suddenly pours without warning. You won’t have to open your bag and search for that raincoat!
Aside from that, this boss also has a special compartment for your sleeping bag.
To be honest, I had a really hard time fitting my heavy cold day sleeping bag in, so I’d advise you to bring a smaller mummy sleeping bag or something lighter instead.

Bottom Line: A simple and straightforward tactical backpack that lets you carry more. Perfect backpack for everyday use or for upgrading.
Pros
- Features a drain hole or eyelet for when water or rain enter the bag
Cons
- Zippers aren’t YKK
- The waist straps aren’t padded
- Not waterproof
SUMMARY:
If you think you don’t need all the bells and whistles, or the extra storage compartments and all that straps and are just looking for a simple and straightforward backpack that can handle everything you need, then this military-style backpack from Reebow Gear is worth checking out.
Not all the best survival backpacks are giants.
Coming in at a little more than two pounds, don’t let this backpack fool you.
I sure did because I was surprised with its storage space after I finished loading it right up to the brim.
It looks humble on the outside but I was actually able to fill it up with 3 days worth of clothes and even some extras like snacks!
That also proved another great point.
I filled it right up to its limit and that was deliberate. I wanted to see how the zippers would work.
So how was it?
Well, let’s just say that I still have it today and the zippers are still in their pristine condition. So yep, it didn’t bust.
Oh, and speaking of zippers…
If you’re brand conscious, just know that the zippers aren’t YKK zippers. Turns out, I learned that some people actually mind the zippers’ name, but for me, these unbranded ones didn’t burst and that’s what counts.
And now that we’re talking about the small details…
What I immediately noticed was the double-stitched seams that hint at this baby’s dependable quality.
Moreover, it’s also made from high-density fabric that they claim is water-resistant.
True enough, my table and cables emerged dry and spotless after rushing through the rain one night on my way home.
But remember: water-resistant doesn’t readily mean waterproof. You won’t want to be walking in the rain for hours with your bag unprotected.
But what makes this survival bag special…
Is it can also pass for an everyday bag. Yes, you can definitely use this for school, work, or even just a little survival kit in preparation for disasters or other emergency situations.
That’s because it’s not as big as other survival bags.
But what if you need more room, for, say, hiking or camping?
Then that’s where the molle webbing comes in.
Let me tell you, the majority of this backpack’s facade consists of molle attachment points. There are also a few ones along the sides of the bag, which made it so enjoyable to use in expeditions.
I love how I can control where I want to put my extra tactical pouches on so I was able to balance my bag according to my comfort and convenience.
And as a bonus…
It also came with a cool black US flag patch! Because it’s velcro, you can definitely remove it and replace it with any badge you want.

Bottom Line: A good survival pack made for more than 24-hour survival complete with great features to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the day.
Pros
- Super wide and thick shoulder straps
- The compression straps give extra comfort while balancing your bag
- Elastic chest strap
- The pack is covered with mesh
- With airways to keep you cool
- Features attachment points
- Velcro for patches and badges
- Hydration bladder and hose-ready with bottle pocket on the side
- Top handle for carrying
Cons
- The Outdoor Recreation Group
SUMMARY:
The trouble with survival backpacks nowadays is most of them sacrifice comfort for good features.
You may have more attachment points but you have to endure the killing weight on your shoulders. You may be able to fit more inside but then you’ll have to suck it up hiking or trekking with an unbalanced bag flapping on your bag.
That’s what this straightforward bug out bag from SOG Specialty solved for us.
First of…
It has exceptionally comfortable shoulder straps that are thick and wide. So carrying it for more than 3 hours straight was less pain compared to before.
In addition to that, the padded straps are also yoke-style which helped immensely when I had to carry it for hours.
The sternum strap is adjustable, as well as other straps, while the chest straps are flexible.
Inside, the space is great and there are different zippered pockets for organization, as well as mesh pockets.
If you’re wondering…
How much gear was I able to fit inside, well, I was able to put a 16” MacBook, clothes good for 2 days, and a pair of boots among others.
For irregularly-shaped items, there were molle attachment points for me to put my smaller tactical bags or pouches in.
It’s also hydration bladder-ready with holes for the tubing. And if you prefer bringing a water bottle instead, there’s also a side pocket for that.
There’s also a special lined pocket for your gadgets, sunglasses, and other fragile valuables.
And for ultimate comfort…
Not only the back is lined with mesh to avoid it getting soaked from sweat but it’s also contoured with air channels to let air in and keep you much cooler even if you’re carrying your survival backpack for hours under the sun!
Aside from that, it’s also equipped with compression straps that don’t only improve weight distribution but also make your load more compact to keep it from moving about or pulling your back down.
And hey, it honestly doesn’t hurt that it looks totally identical to PUBG’s level 3 backpack, too. What a thrill!

Bottom Line: One of the best waterproof survival backpacks on the market with its detachable side pockets and front pocket as well as a robust water-resistant material.
Pros
- With zipper closures for rain protection
- Comes with 3 detachable bags on the front and on the sides
- Water-resistant
- The bite valve is protected with a covering
- Shoulder straps and chest belt are adjustable
- Interiors are also water-resistant
- Affordable
Cons
- You may find the rucksack design uncomfortable
SUMMARY:
If you think that you can’t have a survival backpack without spending too much, then read carefully.
With all its features and built, we considered this CVLIFE backpack one of the best among all the survival packs we’ve tested in its price range.
Starting with its best features…
This unit is made perfectly for long treks or camping as it has not one but three detachable bags!
The first ones are the side pockets, which you can use separately as a first aid kit or accessory kits.
Then there’s the bigger detachable front pocket which I was able to use separately when going out of the camp as a 24-hour survival kit.
What makes this perfect for survival is also its water-resistant features.
This bag is made from high-density 600D polyester that feels light on the shoulders but robust to the touch.
Going inside, not only the exterior material is water-repellent but the interior as well!
That is if water would ever have a chance to get inside your bag.
Because…
It also has rain flaps or zipper closures so I didn’t have to worry about my belongings getting wet through the zipper linings anymore.
Speaking of flaps and closures, this bag can also accommodate a hydration bladder and it doesn’t only have a hole for the tubing but also a cover for that hole so water or rain could have no entry point to the inside of your bag!
Naturally, it also has molle webbings to let you attach more aside from the included detachable bags.
Heck, I was even able to attach a whole small survival backpack on the front one time!
The back is breathable as well, despite its lack of contours.
If you’re conscious about your zippers, just take note that the zippers in this CVLIFE backpack could be noisier than the others.
But then, I was happy with how military it felt. And the materials, especially the stitching are more than reliable and dependable, which shows that I would be using this one for many years to come.

Bottom Line: A lightweight multi-purpose bug out bag that can carry more than your usual load with its numerous attachment loops and exterior pockets.
Pros

- S-type shoulder straps to ease the tension on your shoulders
- Back is high, elastic, and breathable
- Lots of well-organized pockets
- Padded hip belt
- Side loops for long stuff such as tent poles
- Great customer service
Cons
- Big but doesn’t have an internal frame
SUMMARY:
If we’re going to talk about multi-purpose bags, then this one from Loowoko might just be the best survival backpack kit in that category.
At first glance…
It sure looked flimsy and lightweight to us. And well yes, it doesn’t have a metal internal framing like the other heavy-duty survival backpacks so it’s marketed mainly as a day bag.
But surprise surprise!
I always make sure to use my bags to their limit so I can see if they’re really worth the price.
And I was surprised at just how much I was able to fit in this bag.
For one, it has side loops where you can actually put your tent poles or anything long so you won’t have to carry them.
And that’s not all.
I was also able to attach bags for my foldable seats on the sides!
More than that, the front pocket itself is very spacious and I was able to fit my pair of sneakers there and that’s not even the main compartment yet.
The hip belt is adjustable but that’s not the highlight here. There are also pockets on either side of the belt where you could put your cell phone or camera in so you won’t have to reach out far back to the bag or worse, bring the bag down just to get them.
Very convenient.
Overall…
It has 8 adjustable straps so you can customize the bag’s fit according to your body size. As a matter of fact, it was able to fit my male and female colleagues perfectly.
Despite its great capacity, this backpack weighs only 2.6 pounds and can even fit most airlines’ size requirements so you can also definitely use it as a carry-all bag for traveling.
And with the amount of stuff I can fit and carry with this bag, I sure will use it for long travels in the future.
If you’re worried about comfort…
Just know that the shoulder straps are lined with breathable mesh with a generous amount of sponge padding to ease the tension off your shoulders especially when carrying it through long distances.
It can also fit up to 5 days worth of clothes and snacks and even a folded duffel bag for the souvenirs I was to take home!
And to make it better, there’s also a zippered compartment that houses the rain cover this bag comes in!
I’d say it’s totally worth the price.

SUMMARY:
If you’re looking for a good backpack that’s not overwhelmingly heavy or gigantic but still with a good tactical look and function, look no further because we’ve found one of the best lightweight packs for you.
This tactical military backpack may look humble at first glance but it proved itself when I filled it full to the brim and its 600D nylon build didn’t budge one bit.
Aside from the chest and waist belts, there are also paracords that are amazingly quiet.
And if you’re a great drinker…
You’ll also be glad to know that while this backpack is made to be lightweight for everyday use, it also has a compartment for your hydration pack so you can enjoy instant and convenient hydration even if you’re just walking home from work or school!
Like the other more expensive bags on the market, this bag’s back is also lined with breathable mesh and the straps are padded so no worries even when I filled this baby up because there are paddings to absorb the tension from heaviness.
As for the material…
While it’s not a waterproof backpack, its 600D nylon material is somewhat of a water repellent coating so your belongings can still stay safe if you run through the rain for some minutes.
One of the features that I love about this unit is also the well-organized pockets. There are pockets for flat stuff and there are bigger ones which can fit my camera or even shoes!
Another great thing about this guy is the color choices which is 3 so you can get one that speaks for your personality.

One of the highest scorers in our roundup, this convenient and hard worker backpack got us with unique features that make it great for both camping and hiking as well as everyday use.
Made from sturdy 900D high-density Oxford fabric, this bad guy is made to withstand weather, wear, and tear.
It has a PVC waterproof liner inside so in case the inevitable happens and rain gets through the zipper, you won’t have any problem drying your bag out.
It’s also a good backpack for motorcyclists and bicyclists.
As a matter of fact, this bag was designed with the riders in mind as evidenced by the reflector design situation in front of the bag for additional safety for night riders!
Moreover, because we just hate holding our jackets or sweaters especially when struggling out of breath when hiking or walking (or is it just me?), this backpack is also designed with a cool Y strap in front where you can actually insert your jackets or whatnot.
As if this isn’t enough…
It also has a comfy padded area inside where you can store your laptop or tablet or just about anything you don’t want moving as you walk while the compression strapping improves the load distribution on your back and keeps bulky gear at bay.

Bottom Line: With deep zippered pockets, a built-in whistle, and a very convenient folding design, this backpack is one of the best hiking bags on the market.
Pros
- Great design. It folds into its own pocket when not in use
- Chest clip has a whistle buckle
- Large main compartment and zippered pockets
- With a reflective strip on the back
- Affordable
- Comes in cool colors and designs
Cons
- Not meant for a longer stay outside
SUMMARY:
If you don’t want to look like military personnel or recruit with the classic tactical bag, then you’ll like this hiking back from POKARLA.
Coming in cool designs, I’d say this backpack gave my eyes a rest when I used it for hiking.
Gotta love a good floral leafy design.
Aside from a reflector, it also has a cool orange buckle with a built-in whistle. Talk about a survival bag!
It doesn’t have many pockets like other tactical bags but there are enough. Actually, I find it convenient especially if you’re forgetful. Fewer pockets to wonder where your stuff is.
Moreover, these pockets are tactically placed where you’ll be able to access them even if you’re carrying the bag on your back.
Buyers Guide: How To Choose The Best Survival Backpacks
Material
You might have noticed the different materials these backpacks are made of. They have different levels of durability and comfort.
Nylon – Nylon is made from polyurethane or PVC with silicone treating. This makes a nylon backpack water-proof or water-resistant.
Polyester – Polyester is finer than nylon but is not waterproof. However, it has UV-resistant properties.
Framing
You either get a bag with internal framing or one with none. Internal framing is good if you don’t want your backpack looking like a sad sack unloaded. But if you prefer to keep it lightweight, then you can get a frameless one.
Weight
Backpacks should ease the tension off your shoulder and back, not add to it. Look for one with a weight (note: not capacity) that’s bearable for you and won’t add much to your load’s weight.
