- Manufacturer: Lighting EVER
- Size: ‎7.83 x 4.06 x 3.94 inches
- Light Intensity: 1000 Lumens
- Compatibility: Battery-powered LED
- Light Mode: Daylight white, warm light, full brightness, and flashing
Bottom Line: Rain or shine, LE will never leave you in the dark with its 1000 lumens and four light modes!
Pros
- Bright white light
- Great warm light option
- Easy to operate
- Includes four light modes - with flashing mode for emergency signaling
- Water-resistant
- Removable cover
- Long battery life
- Affordable
Cons
- Plastic parts are not durable
- The battery cover becomes loose
- Becomes too hot at some point
- Not rechargeable
SUMMARY:
There’s no need for you to fumble in the dark anymore – even under the rain. Lighting EVER comes with a lantern that can shine with up to 1000 lumens.
All you need are traditional alkaline batteries, and you’re good to go.
You’ll want this because…
You can use four modes with a quick push of a button.
There’s the daylight white or full brightness for when you want to illuminate a huge or outdoor space. You can also opt for the warm light when you’re reading.
Then, in emergencies, you can push the button one more time to get the flashing signal lights.Â
This lantern is so easy and comfortable to carry and use.
But that’s not all…
It’s also water-resistant and has a durable overall build.
There are a few inconsistencies, though. After putting in the replaceable batteries, the cover became a little loose. It fell off once or twice, but the batteries didn’t.
And after hours of use, the lantern heated up that we couldn’t touch the plastic covering. We were scared it would melt, but luckily, it didn’t. So we thought that those were all just minor inconveniences.
After all…
We could let those go because the lantern is bright enough to cover a small campsite. And it didn’t dim or blackout the whole night that we used it.
After a few nights of consistent use, we replaced the batteries because they weren’t rechargeable.
So, surely you can see why LE is our Editor’s Choice!

- Manufacturer: Energizer Battery Company, Inc.
- Size: ‎6.26 x 4.09 x 11.12 inches
- Light Intensity: 500 Lumens
- Compatibility: Battery-powered LED
- Light Mode: High, low, and night light
Bottom Line: Energizer proves that the best camping lantern doesn’t have to be expensive.
Pros
- Affordable
- It fits two battery sizes
- Water-resistant
- Includes three light modes
- Durable build
- It has a glow-in-the-dark button
Cons
- Less bright than others
- Short battery lifespan
- Not rechargeable
SUMMARY:
Its super low price isn’t even the best thing about the Energizer lantern. We expected fair qualities and even lower.
But it rose to be our Best Value lantern because of its features!
In other words…
Energizer can compete with other expensive brands in terms of its durability. It’s water-resistant, just like the others. And it doesn’t heat up too much.
We even dropped this one, and it just rolled over and came back with scratches. There were no major damages.
Only…
It’s not as bright as the others, especially those with 1000 lumens and higher. But Energizer can illuminate a small room or campsite just like it’s daylight.
Also it didn’t last as long as LE in terms of power and it makes use of disposable batteries instead of rechargeable ones. But it consumes power just as fast as others do, even the less bright lanterns we tried.
And another thing…
You can choose between three D or three AA batteries – whatever you can get hold of. One type at a time, not altogether.
The battery cartridge is designed to fit either, but not both. You’ll only need one set anyway.
And you can start enjoying high brightness or low. If you’re the kind of person who can’t sleep without a faint light, then push the button again and opt for the nightlight mode.
Also…
This lantern’s switch is glow-in-the-dark, so you can easily find it during emergencies.
All of this for such a low price, you can buy another one!

- Manufacturer: Vont

- Light Intensity: 140 Lumes
- Compatibility: Battery-powered LED
- Light Mode: Collapsible
Bottom Line: There’s no doubt that Vont knows how compact and durable backpacking lanterns should be.
Pros
- Affordable
- Includes six batteries (one set)
- Very durable build
- Compact and easy to carry
- Water-resistant
- Includes two lanterns
Cons
- Less bright than other lanterns
SUMMARY:
Vont packed two lanterns for the price of one. If that doesn’t spell affordable to you, we don’t know what will.
But what made it our Top Pick is its consistently durable quality.
What we mean is…
These Vont lanterns survived a heavy downpour on the field. It’s water and weather-resistant, so you can hang it outdoors all night.
They also met a few accidents along the way. We left one under the sun for a whole day and dropped the other one a few too many times. And both lanterns still worked when we needed them in the night.
For sure…
We hoped that they’d be brighter, but they wouldn’t go higher than 140 lumens even when we replaced the batteries that came with the package.
By the way, the battery pack that comes with it is a set of six. Meaning you’ll need three for each lantern.
But…
It’s a cheap product that exceeded our expectations.
A set of batteries will last longer and these lanterns will also last long enough with you. And if you want to dim the light a little, you can easily collapse the lamp to your desired brightness.
All in all, it’s worth your money and works well.

- It can be used as a power bank

Cons
- Expensive

SUMMARY:
We had high hopes for Ledlenser because it’s significantly more expensive than most of the products on the market – let alone this top ten list.
But it didn’t disappoint us. We’re impressed by how bright this small, thin, and lightweight lantern is.
At camp…
We put it in the middle of an open field where we put up our tents. And it brightened up the surroundings well enough that we could walk around and enjoy the night.
Inside the tent, it looks just like daylight with this lantern.
Only…
We hoped it could’ve had des to choose from.Â
Sometimes, you just want to dim it for a more peaceful and relaxed experience. And there may be situations when you’ll have to flash an emergency signal. But you won’t be able to with this lantern.
You have one bright option and that’s it.
Still, it’s highly recommendable.

Bottom Line: With its 1700 lumens at high light mode - Internova Monster is the brightest camping lantern in this list!
Pros
- Relatively affordable
- Super bright
- Long battery life
- Includes light mode for emergencies
Cons
- Less durable than others in this list
- Becomes too hot
SUMMARY:
Honestly, we didn’t expect the Internova Monster to be this bright. After all, it’s one of the affordable lanterns. But it turned out to be brilliant!
At high mode, it can light up to 1700 lumens. But if you want it dimmer, you can go for the low option or the red-light option.
And if you’re stuck in emergencies and need to light a signal, this lantern has an SOS mode. Just hit the button a fourth time and its blinking red light will be seen from afar.
Aside from that…
It stays bright for a long time.
You can keep the Internova Monster on low mode all night and still have to turn it off in the morning.
But when it rains you’ll have to take it down because it’s not as durable as expected. It’s not designed to resist water or any rugged situation.

- Includes two rechargeable lithium-ion batteries
- It can be used as a power bank
- The batteries charge super fast
Cons
- Not that bright

- Less durable than others
SUMMARY:
When you’re excited to go backpacking or camping, this lightweight camping lantern won’t bog you down.
It only needs a few hours to rest, and you can go ahead with your adventure.
So…
Even if these lanterns die down faster than others in this list, we still recommend them because of their fast charging feature.
It also doesn’t hurt that you can use CAPETRONIX as a power bank. You can charge your phones and small devices through its USB port.
But then…
You have to be careful with it because it’s not made for ruggedness. And it’s smaller than we’d prefer for a camp lantern. But the good side is that it weighs next to nothing.
And it’s water-resistant, so it can survive a rainy night. You just need to be careful not to drop it because the workmanship is a bit flimsy.
Anyway…
You won’t regret it if you choose CT CAPETRONIX because it’s super affordable. For the price of one, you’ll get two lanterns – including batteries too!

Bottom Line: Wsky gives you a good camping lantern that can last long enough even under the rain.
Pros
- Water-resistant
- Super bright
- It can be used as a power bank
- Includes red light mode for emergencies
- Sufficient battery life
- Affordable
- Compact design
Cons
- Less durable than others
- The handle is uncomfortable for flashlight mode
- Slow charger
SUMMARY:
If you’re thinking about dark camping and backpacking nights, possible rainy weather, and your wallet – this little lantern from Wsky knows all about that!
You won’t have to break the bank for it. It’s more affordable than most lanterns you’ll find on the market.
But despite its cheap price…
Wsky can brighten up your camp, RV, room, or tent up to 1800 lumens. If that’s too bright, you can choose the low light mode.
You can also switch between flashlight and lantern mode. Whatever you need this lantern for, it can serve you – even in emergencies with its red light option.
Only…
You might find its handle uncomfortable when using it as a flashlight. It’s not that heavy – it’s compact and lightweight – but the handle dug into our palms because it’s too thin.
And you have to be careful when carrying this Wsky lantern. We dropped it one time and there were cracks on the plastic parts. But the lantern still worked pretty well.
Anyway…
It’s water-resistant, so it’s an advantage to have this during a downpour. It can stay up in soft light mode most of the night too.
But make a mental note to recharge Wsky early before you have to use it. This one takes a while before the batteries are full.
That will become handy when you need to charge your phones too because, yes, this lamp is also a power bank!
Why Trust Us
-
Save
We can’t count the number of times – and the bucks – we wasted on faulty and disappointing camping gear. That’s probably because we didn’t take some tools seriously.
Specifically…
We usually forget how important a handy light is when out car camping, backpacking, or even staying at home and having a power outage.
But we learned our lesson.
So…
We went out of our way just to find the best camping lantern out there. We bought a bunch of them, tested them in complete darkness, tried the different light modes and ways of recharging.
Then we brought them to the field. We were caught in the rain a few too many times. But that’s alright because we could see if the lanterns still worked even in those conditions.
And now…
We have this article to help you decide which camp lantern you should add to your gear. Hopefully, the details are clear and helpful enough for our fellow outdoor enthusiasts!
Buyer's Guide:
How To Choose The Best Camping Lanterns
-
Save
What are the different types of camping lanterns?
- Fuel – a gas lantern runs on fuel like kerosene or butane.
- Electric – lanterns that rely on electrical power sources like solar, battery, etc.
- Candle – traditional and outdated design that uses a candle inside a protective glass box/lantern as a source of light.
Features to look out for:
- Blinking lights are useful in emergencies, which have a high likelihood of happening when in the outdoors.
- A rechargeable battery can save you a lot of money in the long run.
- Water-resistance is a huge advantage for outdoor camps, so you won’t have to turn your lights off even while it rains.
- A lantern with a solar panel is handier in emergencies.
Camping lanterns and specifications explained
Camping lanterns are portable light sources brought to camp that is either powered by battery or fuel.
- Size – smaller lanterns tend to be less bright, but they’re easier to carry.Â
- Light intensity – lanterns with higher lumen ratings have brighter maximum outputs.
- Compatibility – This is the power source of the light source
- Light mode – the modes are the types of dispersion or intensity of the lantern’s output.
These are things to consider:
- Compact lanterns aren’t always dimmer than big lamps. Sometimes, they’re just as bright.
- Solar panels take longer to charge lanterns than an electrical power source.
- Lanterns with a collapsible mechanism for dimming the light won’t conserve battery power.
- Light quality is not directly proportional to the lantern’s number of maximum lumens.
Jargon buster:
- Lumen – the measure of how much light you can get from a bulb.
- Dispersion – how white light is scattered through a lantern cover.
Best Camping Lanterns Top Tips:
- Car campers usually choose dimmer lanterns over brighter ones because they only need to illuminate a small space. The same goes for small camping tents.
- Switching between lighting modes conserve more energy than dimming the lantern by a collapsible mechanism.
