Bottom Line: Tough and Xtreme auger to use for every ice fishing season!

Pros

SUMMARY:

As the name suggests, this ice fishing auger is really extreme when it comes to drilling holes on ice.

The XtremepowerUS 1500W strikes the ideal mix between performance and portability.

That’s why it’s our Editor’s Choice Award!

This compact machine, which weighs only 29 pounds, can handle thick ice during your fishing trips.

Now let me tell you all about it.

Did you know that its superior manganese steel used in the 6-inch auger drill bit is designed to endure impact, extrusion, and other sorts of difficult working conditions?

Amazed? Well, there’s more…

The safety lock on the powerhead prevents it from being unintentionally triggered, giving you the peace of mind you need.

With this robust XtremepowerUS machine on hand, you can confidently handle various lawn tasks, especially our main goal — to dig holes on ice. The machine’s ergonomic handles let you use it with one hand too!

You won’t have to worry about hand and backaches at the end of the day because it has an anti-vibration and anti-skid design.

Truly portable and easy to use.

As a result, we got home with many caught fish without feeling too tired!

However…

Because this auger uses an electric motor, I would take a half-hour break every 6 holes to ensure the engine does not overheat.

The engine is becoming a bit warm after digging three holes, but not too warm or hot.

I remember flinting every now and then during the process of boring ice in the Devil’s Lake because there is much squinting ice all over!

So I would recommend you use eye protection every time you use this as it gets messy and dangerous sometimes.

If you operate far from an electrical outlet, you’ll also need to put together an extension cord for this machine.

But overall, I would recommend this electric auger. It’s very lightweight and easy to use.

SUMMARY:

If you can’t find the perfect gas-powered auger for your every ice fishing trip, I bet Pump Gas 52CC is what you’re missing.

We gave it the Best Value For Money Award because it is affordable without compromising the quality of the features and its performance.

Here’s why…

It has a powerful 52 cc gasoline engine with a single 1.8-kW cylinder that drills many holes in rapid succession.

This post hole digger has exceeded our expectations. We acquired it to avoid digging holes by hand during ice fishing season, and it proved to be a valuable tool for us!

This gadget produces 8000 revolutions per minute of power, allowing you to perform other activities with ease.

You can easily watch the gasoline level thanks to the built-in transparent gas tank. At the same time, the design has a manual recoil mechanism that encourages a quick-pull start, letting you get right to work.

We’re not through yet…

This post hole digger comes with two die-cast metal bits that are 10 inches and 6 inches long, allowing for many applications. A switch control on the handlebar and a fingertip throttle provide an improved grip while adjusting the control.

Lastly…

The broad, detachable butterfly handles make storing and lifting easier while also preventing muscular stress.

The only problem?

The vibration causes some screws to lose. Either use Loctite or tighten everything before you use it, then you’re ready to go!

Bottom Line: The most durable and robust ice fishing auger for professional and beginners.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:
We were initially skeptical of Tazz and their (very) expensive gas-powered augers.

It sure drill holes… and wallets.

However, we loved its durability that’s why this power drill is our top pick!

This auger has the power today and is built to keep digging!

A powerful 43 cc engine and durable ball bearing transmission are a great combination for attacking the earth and ice.

Its tough welded handlebars, torque absorbing shock spray, and a hardened fishtail are just some of the little things that make a great difference…

If you plan on ice fishing in Vermont, Minnesota, and Alaska, this ice auger will definitely save you time, effort, and body pains.

It’s a simple one-man post-hole digger. I looked into a few other post-hole diggers before settling on this one, and I’m quite happy with it.

The throttle is simple to operate, and if you take your time, you may avoid the device spinning out of control.

It’s pretty easy to manage (although it’s a bit heavy). The total time for those 9 holes we bore was 15 minutes only.

The thing is…

Some of my colleagues had problems with its performing power that hopefully I won’t in the future.

The good thing is that Tazzo offers a 3-year warranty and free replacement parts for those heavy users.

So, all in all, Tazzo is a great investment. Its durability is proven and sure will last you a couple of winter seasons.

Well made and worth every dime spent on it!

Bottom Line: Even the thickest ice will surrender with this gas auger gas-powered.

Pros

Cons

Summary:

If you prefer a gas-powered ice auger, the ECO LLC is just about the right choice.

Though a bit expensive, It performs as expected, and I was able to complete my task in a fraction of the time.

This model has a 63cc motor that allows it to drill through many types of dirt fast. It is used to drill holes, fences, and ice.

Thin ice, tick ice, name it! ECO can get the work done.

Since the winter season was tough, I didn’t manage to run this drill myself, so I asked my mate for help.

Luckily, this model is designed to be operated by one or two people.

We loved it!

This is very user-friendly with its cool features.

This item comes with an assembly toolset and an instruction booklet with detailed, step-by-step instructions that you can read before using it for the first time.

The gas tank is translucent, so you will always be aware when it needs to be refilled. Plus, you won’t have to worry about running out of gas this way.

It has a fingertip throttle control and switch control on the handlebar that is easy to grip and provides improved user power and speed control.

But wait…

Take note that this is a gas power auger, so limit your expectations of this being eco-friendly- cause apparently it’s not.

But it’s not like you’ll use this every day so give this gas-powered auger a chance!

5 - Best Ice Auger for Ice Drilling

Landworks Ice Auger

Power & Reliability

9

9

8

Bottom Line: The perfect tool for cold weather fishing!

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

If you want to catch plenty of fish, you must remain silent. A seasoned ice fisher understands that poking multiple holes 10-15 feet away will help stir them up!

Fortunately…

Landworks has made incredible strides in outdoor power equipment, particularly Electric Augers- and here’s what we have for you today.

Since you won’t need gas but a battery, it’s definitely quieter, less- smog, and eco-friendly.

The battery is powered with a 4ah battery.

Whether you’re out on the ice in your own wheelhouse or an old aluminum shack/tent, this cordless drill ice auger will take care of the work for you!

Since Christmas, we’ve used this auger for ice fishing several times. It works perfectly until you reach the last 1-2 inches of ice before breaking through to the ocean.

This variant comes with wide-spaced silicone handles for added convenience and to keep the device balanced while in use.

Furthermore, the drill has a planetary gear mechanism for improved transmission efficiency.

The brushless motor improves the efficiency and smoothness of the digging operation.

But here’s the thing…

The battery life in cold weather conditions is a major issue with this auger. Kind of like when you go Ice fishing. We took voltage readings at various temperatures, and here are the results:

The voltage decreases to approximately 7 volts at 30 degrees, barely enough to spin, much alone cut. Meanwhile, It was putting out a full 13v at 75 degrees– quite a swing.

Best advice?

Keep the battery warm at all times. I keep it in a little bag with a hand warmer inside.

6 - Best Ice Auger for Hard Soil

Hiltex 10525 Electric Post Hole Digger Earth Auger

8

Power & Reliability

8

Durablity

9

8

Shaft Strength

8

Bottom Line: This electric auger will definitely save our back from pain.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

With maximum power, the Hiltex electric 10525 is perfect for all sorts of outdoor drilling tasks.

This electric-powered post-hole digger is great for expert users, but it could be a little too strong for newbies.

The powerful 1.6HP motor in this electric auger allows the robust and solid steel auger bit to dig deep through dense soil, gravel, or clay.

This little auger saved my back and allowed me to do more in an hour than I could have in 2-3 hours.

To begin with…

The thick ice in the lake is quite hard, and digging through all that uneven ice is challenging.

We loved bringing it anywhere, including the Dark Lake!

You see, it’s known for having thick ice because of the places’ super cold temperatures.

Guess what? Hiltex doesn’t even have a problem with that. It still bored holes in minutes.

Furthermore, the rubberized anti-vibration grip handle is engineered for optimum leverage, stability. It eliminates hand fatigue for simple one-person operations.

In addition, for extra protection, the digger has a prominent red safety lock mechanism that prevents any accidental triggering.

I always see people having a terrible accident with the sharp blades of their auger. But for this one, I bet you won’t, thanks to its safety lock.

Everything’s perfect, but…

The only problem we had was its electric cord. Sadly, we can’t go farther than we can imagine because it’s not flexible. We have to stay near the power source.

Though it rattled our perfect day, however, it’s not much of a big deal because we still caught fish on our spot.

But all things considered, I wish it had a reverse, but everything else about it was amazing!!

Although it was hard work, it made my job simpler and prevented me from injuring myself.

7 - Best Ice Auger for Dirty Ice

Eskimo Propane Powered Auger

Value for Money

9

Power & Reliability

9

Durablity

7

Maintenance

10

Shaft Strength

8

Bottom Line: The propane auger with low value but with high-quality performance.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

A couple of things that I liked about this auger is that it is propane and that the oil burns very clear in it.

The catch is that you don’t have to do a lot of oil maintenance in propane-powered ice augers at all. So less work, less hassle.

Plus, the propane is very clean in burning the fuel, so that’s a bonus as well.

A motorized ice auger like this is a workhorse. It cut through feet of snow and ice without difficulty on the lake we went through.

Not only that…

This propane ice auger has worked very well. I’ve owned this drill for the past 18 or 20 months or so, and it still worked perfectly fine from this past year.

The automated choke (or automatic prime) feature is a big benefit since it makes it much easier to start without regulating the quantity of gasoline going to the motor manually.

This gas-powered auger features a two-cycle engine and an auto-prime fuel system as an extra bonus.

Just a little warning.

When I first started operating this propane ice auger, I had one problem: the screw would back out, holding the shaft to the actual engine block itself.

What I did was I grew a lock titedent right into the shaft. It does kind of leak a little bit on my first try, especially when I tried to use it for the whole day.

But the funny thing is that, that could be because my oil filter is probably dirtier than the soil!

The bottomline is…

This is the machine for you if you want a decent ice auger at a fair price. Many features that even some of the higher expensive models lack are included in the price range.

Question 3: How do you use a hand ice auger?

A : I’ve found that any hand auger or manual auger bigger than 6 inches is really difficult to use if you have more than six or seven inches of ice thickness.

To use the hand auger is easy. You simply put them down on the ice, and there’s the handle that you’ll press down and turn the chipper blades clockwise.
