Pros

SUMMARY:

This CJRB pocket knife is for someone who wants a straightforward knife for bushcraft without the excess bells and whistles and will stay sharp for a long time while doing more things both hard and delicate.

Yes, I’m talking about this review’s Editor’s Choice.

A favorite among the many folding knives on the market today, the CJRB Cutlery powder steel black folder is one sharp blade right out of the box. Made from AR-RPM9 powder steel, it has a cleaver-style blade that’s perfect for both big and small tasks.

As if that’s not enough…

It also has a wide cutting area so I was actually able to use it in larger cutting tasks such as cutting some wood and skinning some games.

In addition to that, much thought came to the thickness of the blade. At 0.13 inches, it’s not too thin that it’s flimsy and yet, not too thick enough to get stuck in a material like wood. It’s just right and it glided smoothly and easily down to whatever I was slicing.

In case you’re wondering…

I did take it out for some bushcrafting and I was able to successfully skin, clean, and cut just about anything with this guy.

And if you’re thinking it’s not up for some delicate tasks, think again because, with its squared tip, it’s made to do not only some rough cutting but also delicate ones such as carving or the like and with great control at that!

Now, going to the handle…

It’s an attractive reflective black handle that certainly looks nice at first glance. The design helped me to find it when I had to look for it in the dark.

Made from carbon fiber, it’s very glassy, which can be a make or break, depending on your preference and on your hold.

Some people prefer a smoother handle, and some, like me, love some texture, and this one lacks some texture to the handle. So if you’re holding it with wet hands, you may want to be extra careful here.

But then…

It’s honestly a small price to pay what with the ease it gave me when I was trying to survive in that wet and gloomy wild.

Moreover, it’s outfitted with a ceramic ball bearing pivot system and a ceramic detent that makes its deployment quick and seamless.

I don’t know about you but I just like to flick it open in half a second from time to time so I’d feel like a badass villain.

Upon closing the knife, I actually felt the tight locking so I was able to rest assured that it won’t easily open in my pocket or bag.

And speaking of assurance…

I also like that it has this black steel clip that you can transfer to the other side depending on your preference. It’s flush with the edge of the handle so it’s very discreet with no chance of ever catching something and causing an accident.

Oh and it also has a lanyard hole if you prefer to have it in a strap.

It got me through for months and is still sharp to this day but I’ve also discovered that it’s not very hard to sharp when I need to.

Overall, it’s a straightforward blade that made life much easier for us just like how a good one should, making it the Editor’s Choice and one of the best pocket knives in my collection.

Bottom Line: A great multitool folding knife with a built-in flashlight and rope cutter at a very agreeable price.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

If you’re planning to deny yourself a good shining multitasker of a good quality knife just because you’re on a budget, stop right there.

Because this Supology locking blade knife is more than just a knife at a reasonable price, making it this roundup’s Best Value awardee!

This foldable knife has a built-in flashlight which came in very handy and helped me in more situations than I’ve ever expected. I mean, imagine not having to struggle in trying to hold your knife while doing a task and maintaining a good position for your light.

I was able to do more things and actually rest much earlier than usual thanks to that feature.

But that’s not all.

It also comes with a belt or rope cutter which definitely is more than welcome when you’re in the middle of the wild (or just basically stuck somewhere) and you only have a knife for a tool. I was able to use it for building tents many times.

The blade was made from 7Cr17 stainless steel so it’s non-corrosive and rust-proof which is great because you can use it through rain and storm and in rivers without any guilt.

As for the knife handle…

It’s made from glass fiber and let me tell you, it’s got lots of textures in there and I was so itching to use it when I first got it.

There are different patterns and textures on the handle which is both aesthetically and practically very nice.

Aesthetically, the design makes it look so cool and badass, and practically speaking, it also helps with the user’s grip. Wet or not, you can be confident that it won’t slip all too easily from your hold.

It’s also ergonomically shaped with a slight curve so I felt more comfortable and secured upon using it.

You might notice there’s a little compass on the handle. It’s fake and just there for the design.

But it doesn’t end there.

It also features a built-in liner lock that will lock the blade once it’s open so you won’t accidentally cut yourself just because it buckled when you’re cutting hard objects that need more force.

To close the blade back, you’ll need to press the liner lock first.

Wow.

Now, on to the performance.

The stainless steel blade is described as having a serrated edge but in reality, it also has a straight edge which was put to test when I attempted to cut wood the size of my arm.

Let me just say that it’s actually successful. With more than a few but quick hits, I was able to cut this branch without breaking a sweat.

Seriously!

All these at a very agreeable price? Say no more. This is the best folding knife with a flashlight in my collection.

Bottom Line: A well-crafted locking knife that’s perfect for people looking for a lightweight and easy to deploy survival blade.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

Come on, do you think the list will end without having at least one Spyderco in it?

But kidding aside…

I’ve got yet another pocket folders knife classic and I’m relieved to say that Spyderco didn’t fail me with this one.

Why is the Delica 4 our Top Pick?

Well, it’s all thanks to its thoughtful and clever craftsmanship and the epic blade so let me start with that one.

The fact that it’s made from VG-10 stainless steel gave me more confidence than any of its features.

Did you know?

VG-10 steel is a Japanese high carbon steel blade that’s usually used in high-end and expensive kitchen knives (maybe that explains the Delica 4’s price) so I just knew that it’s robust and long-lasting not only because it’s stainless steel but because it’s made for heavy-duty use, too!

Additionally, it’s also very thin which is good for slicing meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables flawlessly and instantly. The pointed end makes it good for finer tasks as well so it is indeed a very worthy pocket knife for bushcrafting.

As for the handle…

Sure, it may look kind of flimsy at first glance as it’s obvious that it’s plastic. But this is also where the great craftsmanship is mostly focused.

The handle is molded with Bi-Directional texturing for slip-free traction. The scaling is deep so I was able to use it safely even with wet or even oily hands.

And it doesn’t end there.

It also has a reversible clip but not the typical one because this pocket clip is a four-way clip, meaning: you can install the clip tip-up, down, tip-left, or right for ultimate comfort.

Going back to the blade, the skeletonized steel liners lend more strength and durability to the blade’s handle without adding more weight.

Who can beat that?

It also has a jimping for more anti-slip properties.

All these in a small, lightweight contraption in my pocket gave me more confidence as I walked alone into the wet and gloomy wild.

Oh, and did I mention that it’s available in 8 colors such as green, orange, blue, and purple among many others?

Bottom Line: A good, affordable drop point blade that’s perfectly lightweight with an excellent blade locking mechanism.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

Now, this is for the first-timers and those who are looking for a safe and easy EDC.

Made with a drop point blade design, this looker is a perfect folder for hunting with the large area that we call “belly area” that’s perfect for slicing meat as well as the controllable point that’s great for delicate cleaning.

But that’s not the best thing about this knife.

It’s made with Dividend’s Composite Blade Technology that joins two types of steel in one blade, namely the corrosion-proof N690 and the robust and wear-resistant D2 on the sharp edge.

As a result, it has the best of both worlds, being tough and versatile at the same time so I can bring it to more places and use it for many other things.

But here’s what’s cooler.

It’s not only a hard worker but a looker, as well. The anodized aluminum handle comes in a pleasant olive green color decked out with machine-inspired detailing and a silhouette of the American flag!

But aside from its cool design, the anodizing of the aluminum material made it more durable and non-corrosive.

As for the locking mechanism…

It’s made with the SpeedSafe technology that helps make the knife easy to deploy with the built-in flipper and then securely lock it once opened with the liner lock technology.

And you know what’s cooler? Its clip is deep carry, which is a big deal for some people including me! So this is for you if you like to be discreet with your folders knife.

Like the Top Pick, this bad guy’s clip is also 4-way, so very lefty-friendly!

5 - Best Bushcraft Folder Knife For Hunting

9

Versatility/Balance

9

Bottom Line: A very lightweight pocket knife with a tri-ad lock that works great for hunting and living in the wild.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

The Cold Steel Finn Wolf folding knife isn’t badass in name only. As a matter of fact, this is one of the most favorite lock knives among hunters and bushcrafters.

Wonder why?

First off, it’s one of the very few knives in my collection (and most collections, more like) that has a Scandinavian grind.

It’s that short and flat, usually convex, grind on a particular knife blade where the edge bevel is also the primary grind.

What does it mean to you?

The Scandinavian grind gives the blade much better edge retention so it doesn’t easily dull even after quite a long time of use.

Moreover, it’s also very easy to sharpen because the grind can act as a guide for the knife.

As if it’ll need any more sharpening!

But the thing that you might want to look out for is that the 3 mm blade is made even thinner because of this grind. That makes it great for cleanly slicing meat, fruits, and vegetables but susceptible to chipping if used on very hand surfaces.

Do know, though…

That it didn’t chip when I used it several times in wood, but I prefer to be extra careful here.

Another great thing about this baby is the strong tri-ad lock. And when I say strong, I really mean it.

You have to press the liner first to be able to slowly close your knife, preventing any chances of cutting your finger with the suddenly falling blade.

But here’s the trade-off…

This means that you really have to take your time opening and closing it so it’s not the ideal folders knife for self-defense.

On the other hand, I’ve had it for more than a year now and I only had to sharpen it very recently and yes, it took that long before that need arose.

It’s also very useful for quick fixes like fruit slicing, fish skinning, and cleaning, or just opening packages.

The handle is alright, though I wish it’s much beefier but it’s solid and still in one piece after much use and abuse.

And the best thing about it?

It’s very affordable so it’s great if you’re looking for a simple EDC or a starter folders pocket knife.

Bottom Line: The Kershaw KaBar Mule Folder is a great option if you like lightweight folders with an excellent grip on the handle and a hard-working blade.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

The Kershaw KaBar Mule folder sure looks very beefy at first glance. So who would’ve thought that this is lightweight as heck?

But yes, it actually is. Starting from the handle, it’s made of a solid black Zytel material with long scaling in it for better grip. So I wasn’t really anxious about it slipping and cutting my hand even if I had to use it wet.

Though lightweight…

The handle is reinforced with some rubber for better anti-slip quality which I like but then, the trade-off is it’s not going to look very seamless in your pocket as it could bulge a bit. It may or may not be a good thing but personally, I didn’t mind.

It has a lanyard hole, though small, so that’s for you who likes to hand the folder in a strap of the like.

As for the blade?

Made from stainless steel, it’s very evident at first glance that it was given a very excellent heat treatment so it appears very sturdy, solid, and strong.

And it also proved to work that way too. I used it in chopping woods without reserve, as well as cutting branches and even for bigger games and it’s still good as new and not the smallest bit dull.

It’s also well-loved for the locking mechanism.

The locking liner is thick and you may even find it a bit stiff but it only shows that you’re in good hands as the knife won’t ever close in on your finger without warning.

That being said, it’s not a knife for quick self-defense but it’s seriously useful and helpful in almost all chores in the wild.

Another great thing that I’ve noticed is the absence of blade play so the blade stays steady in one place instead of going in different directions like other folders and that shows great stability and balance.

It’s not all rainbows and butterflies, though.

The pocket clip is reversible but it’s not as sturdy as others that I’ve used so if you’re not careful, you might lose it.

Oh, and it also comes with a belt loop, in case that’s your thing.

Bottom Line: The iconic CRKT M16 is one of the best noon-corrosive folders on the market thanks to its excellent coating with a great locking system to boot.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

If you love a flipper with a story, you’d love this gem that’s designed by the late Kit Carson, a retired Master Sergeant and top member of the Knifemakers Guild.

Here’s the kicker.

This lightweight beauty has been included on the Top 10 Tactical Folders of the Decade list by Blade Magazine and also a Cutlery Hall of Fame inductee in 2012.

The company has also been working with top designers around the world to develop knives that aren’t only functional but also aesthetically good.

Such as the iconic M16.

The handle alone is something worth considering. Made from glass reinforced nylon, the stunner is made to be as lightweight as can be with the bored holes that take out some heaviness from the knife.

Also, it’s a look any knife enthusiast will easily recognize, so it’s also very nice to carry.

Now on to its highlight feature…

And that’s the locking mechanism.

Like most folders, this has a liner lock but even better because it’s an automated liner safety that works with the dual purpose flip opener.

So it works like this: upon deploying the knife using the flip opener, this flip would then act as a blade guard that locks the blade in to protect your fingers from being cut.

Then the next-level safety system will then set a pin between the frame and the liner to keep it extra secure as you use the knife.

And when it’s time to close…

You’ll have to move the pin aside and push the liner back.

I know some people who find this bothersome and a lot of work for a flipper. As for me, I don’t really mind because this means more layers of security for my hands.

The blade itself is very thin at 2.03 mm but the sharpness is not over the top sharp, just right.

But the thing that I really like about this…

Is its very small framing and lightweight quality. It’s so small that it almost felt delicate in my hand. While some of you may find this as a con, I actually prefer my bushcraft knives real handy and light.

That being said, it has its flaws and advantages but overall, this would work for you if you like a very handy and lightweight knife for delicate and fine tasks.

The coating is also made to protect it from corrosion so that’s a huge plus!

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

Bushcrafting requires not only readiness for food hunting and shelter building but also safe camping. And that is why we’re always on the lookout for great survival knives that will not only make life easier in a survivalist situation but will also give us confidence that we can protect ourselves if need be.

This pocket folders knife by Todaldi does just that with its 7-in1 capabilities.

Aside from the blade itself, it also has a fire starter, rope cutter, emergency whistle, slotted screwdriver, window breaker, bottle opener, and HEX wrench.

Isn’t that thrilling?

The whistle is ear piercingly loud while the fire starter needs some getting used to. But I’m proud to say that I was able to build a fire 3 times now ever since.

The bottle opener works like the usual stand-alone one, too just like the rest of the tools.

It’s like having a dependable Swiss Army knife but better!

As for the blade, it cuts wickedly and is small enough to be legal in most places. It’s stainless steel so it’s expected to be non-corrosive and long-lasting.

As for the handle, it has great ergonomics that fits in my hand like a glove with its generous amount of ridges and scaling for excellent grip.

The only trade-off…

Would be the slight bulkiness of it all. But then, it’s understandable because hey, we’re carrying 7 tools in this little flipper here!

Like the other folders in this list, it also has this locking mechanism which you’d have to press to be able to close the knife after opening, preventing any injury caused by accidentally closing the knife too sudden or too fast.

Oh, and have I mentioned that the all-black aesthetic is just so badass?

Bottom Line: One of the best drop point knives on the market, this is a great folder for heavy-duty use and hard surfaces.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

If swagger is a knife, this Gerber Swagger drop-point knife is it.

Made from 610 processed stainless steel, you can be confident that it will not rust over time nor fall apart as G10 is the same steel process used for water-resistant watch frames and the like!

The handle has these machine details that are made so thick and deep that it’s a joy holding it because I knew that it won’t be slipping from my sweaty hands whatever happens.

Now on to its best feature.

Its blade is drop point Tanto and you’ve most probably know by now that a drop point blade is advantageous mainly for hunters because of its fine tip and great slicing performance.

But this one just takes home the trophy because it’s made to have a thicker tip so I was able to use it (and stab it!) to hard materials such as wood. I was even able to cut some arm-thick branches along the way!

As if this isn’t enough…

The blade is also partially serrated so you actually have the best of both worlds, making it great not only for fruits and games but for building shelter as well.

Pros

Cons

SUMMARY:

This might just be the epitome of a hidden weapon. This Ontario folders knife may look very simple at first glance and yes, it doesn’t come with many features and novelties. But the quality of its most basic features left us in awe.

The flat grind, flat edge blade gives it a well-balanced feel and reminds me of kitchen knives. And true enough, it’s a breeze to use when skinning games and chopping wood.

It’s also so durable that I was even able to clear our way out of twigs snappily and instantly with this baby’s sharpness.

The grip is finely textured, which was just enough for me but I heard some people say it’s not textured enough. But then, there’s still the thumb grove on the handle that gives the user a more secure grip!

Now let me tell you this.

I have had this for almost 2 years now and I still don’t feel the need to sharpen it. It’s still in one piece, with no scratches, and still as razor-sharp as before.

As it happened, the same goes for many other users, too, making this guy a favorite keeper on the market.

Buyer Guide:
How To Choose The Best Bushcraft Folders Knife

Best Bushcraft Folders Knife - Bugoutbill.com
  • Save

Things to look out for:

  • Blade material- Make sure to choose a folder knife with a blade that is non-corrosive and rust-proof because you sure will be using it through sunny days as well as stormy ones and in the mud as well as in sandy places.
  • Handle- Don’t get blinded by pretty handles! It should be well-textured and even curved so you can handle it not only with comfort but security as well. You don’t want that sharp little thing abruptly slipping through your fingers just because it’s slippery.
  • Multitool- A folders knife is great, but it’s even better if it comes with other extra features such as a flashlight, hammer, cutter, or glass breaker.
  • Locking mechanism- A lock is always a good thing to have in your folders knife. There are far too many instances when a finger is cut because the knife abruptly closed in on it.
  • Clip- You don’t want to be seen with a knife out in public so a clip for the pocket is a good thing to have, especially if it’s flush to the handle’s edge so it’s hidden away from view.
  • Blade shape- The shape of your blade can also determine the versatility of your knife. A serrated blade is good for hard objects such as wood and a fine, thin straight blade is great for smooth material such as fish skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Best Bushcraft Folders Knife - Bugoutbill.com
  • Save

Question 1: Are bushcraft knives legal?

A - Knife laws vary from state to state but the limit is usually between 3 to 5 inches. It’s also usually forbidden to carry it visibly in public so discretion in knives is also an important quality.

Question 2: What is the difference between a bushcraft knife and a survival knife?

A - The main difference between bushcraft and a survival knife is the size. Bushcraft knives are usually smaller because they're meant to be used in smaller and more delicate tasks such as skinning and gutting fish and small games as well as woodworks. On the other hand, survival knives are generally meant for chopping wood, digging, or batoning.

Question 3: How long should a bushcraft knife blade length be?

A - A Bushcraft knife’s blade length is usually around 3 to 6 inches unfolded.
